Abstract: A survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of Blenheim Estate Homes and Pye Homes has revealed that energy efficiency is now one of the most important factors for UK homebuyers looking to save as much money as possible.

Of those surveyed, 64 per cent said they would like their new home to come with solar panels as standard; 42 per cent said a home equipped with an electric vehicle charging post was a must-have; and 35 per cent said an air source heat pump was their top choice.

Air source heat pumps are understood to be 60 per cent more effective at reducing carbon emissions compared to conventional boilers and have the potential to save homeowners money on their monthly heating bills.

In addition, 71 per cent of respondents cited high quality insulation as a deciding factor when looking for a new home.

Alex Rose, Director of Corporate Agents and New Homes at Zoopla, says: Rising energy costs and growing awareness of climate change are starting to influence homebuyers' priorities. New build homes are a great option for environmentally conscious homebuyers.

Not only are they more energy efficient, they are also cheaper to run and can save up to 52 per cent a year on energy costs compared to resale homes.

"We expect this trend to continue in the coming years as the government introduces more policies to improve energy efficiency and reduce the UK's carbon emissions."

Lenders will give homebuyers who move into an energy efficient home with a higher EPC rating a more favourable lending rate or cashback, although the incentives are not as strong.
